FIRST LIEUTENANT ROBERT WILDS MCDONALD, USAF 

First Lieutenant Robert Wilds McDonald was born in Columbia, South Caroline, July 1, 1926. He enlisted in the Reserve component of the Air Corps and attended B-29 Gunnery School and Aircraft Mechanic School prior to furthering his education at the Citadel in Charleston, South Caroline. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from this institute in 1950. 

Lieutenant McDonald received his commission upon the completion of college, and attended basic and advanced flying training (F-86D) prior to his assignment to Japan in 1951. He returned to the United States in 1954 and was separated from active duty, however, he was recalled later this same year and assigned to the 326th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, Missouri. 

Lieutenant McDonald was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the American Campaign Medal during his military career. 

He was promoted to first lieutenant (temporary) 16 April 1953 and first lieutenant (permanent) 16 September 1954.
