BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF CAPT. KENNETH D. CHANDLER

Capt. Kenneth D. Chandler was born in Compton, Calif., on Oct. 14, 1923 and attended Compton high school. 

Entering the Air Force as an enlisted man on Oct. 7, 1942, he was accepted for aviation cadet training six months later.

Upon receiving his wings in March, 1944, he was sent to Germany where he flew ground support missions in a P-47 until the end of the second world war. 

He returned to the states as a P-47 instructor for a French student pilots and then was transferred to Guam. From Guam he was reassigned to Hawaii where he flew P-51's on alert and training missions. 

February 1949 found him back in the states. When the Korean conflict broke out he volunteered for duty there. He was assigned to the 92nd Fighter Squadron as a flight commander. With 143 combat missions to his credit, he destroyed five enemy aircraft and damaged seven others. He was stationed in Korea for nine months. 

Prior to leaving for Korea, Chandler spent ten months with RKO studios in Hollywood making a picture called "Jet Pilot." The movie starred John Wayne and Janet Leigh. Capt. Chandler flew all the scenes for actress Janet Leigh. 

Capt. Chandler has been stationed at Duluth since Feb. 1956. He is assigned to the 11th Fighter Interceptor squadron as flight leader of flight C, using F-102A aircraft. 

Capt. and Mrs. Kenneth (Rosie Marie) Chandler have three children.... Martin (11), Keith(9), and Melody(7).
