Sandersville Nov 14th 1869 To E.A. Ware Sup Ed Dr Sir- As superintendent of four schools in this county, I have neglected to make any return, for the last three months in consequence of the fact, that since the schools were closed, the last of June I do not know of any in operation in the county-several parties have applied to me in this & adjoining counties, who proposed to teach, but no one of them were willing to look to the Freedmen for compensation, And as I informed them that Government could not aid them, I presume that they are not engaged in teaching-and I see no prospect of their Education, until the States shall by taxation, supply the means to maintain teachers- If we had a suitable house in this place, I would cheerfully devote myself to the Education of the freed Children
