Sir,
Excuse the liberty I take in addressing you, but having learned through Col. L.E. Bryant that you were interested in the education of the South, had been connected with the Aux. Miss. Soe, and now accepting a position of large responsibility, I venture to make known to you my wants. 

I have taught four yrs in N. Corolina, have now researsed for the first time to this land of my nativity, am Com.d by the A. Mr. Lesspe and shall return south soon, in two or three weeks at the longest, but have suffered so much from chills and fever during the past year that it seems imperative for me to have the coast where Malaria so extensively prevails and take a position
