Today a Miss Harper aged about 16 or 17 or more perhaps insulted Mers. S tore some palings from the yard fence, threw stores at the house, hit on of the pupils but not to hurt, threatened to break-up the school and kill the pupils &c. The particulars of which I have written to Maj. Mebsebach and her father Mr. Harper was sitting in a fence looking on. We have not reported to the civil authorities yet know that the county Judge and Sheriff and nearby all the town know of the affair and think if they intend to take the matter in hand they ought to inquire in to it themselves. The fact is we have no confidence in them and do not want to commit our self to them so as to be diprive of Military assistance if necessary. We intend to go on as though nothing
