advantage of a valuable man without any extra payment of salary, which we could not assume now.

We cannot understand why any of the ladies should consider you an agent of our Society. Miss Fowler and Mrs. Barnes knew you were Mr. Eberhart's sucessor, and we told the other ladies to report to you at Atlanta, and that they might expect any aid or advice from you, which as Superintendent under the Bureau you could give.

Mr Tomlinson in South Carolina and other Bureau Sup'ts are of frequent service to us and our teachers, though we do not intend to claim any more than is in the line of their official duty, our whole work being under the Bureau. We hope Mr. Leland will relieve you from all annoyance in future
