Daveboro, Washington County Ga.
December 30th,, 1867,

Mr. E.A. Ware
Dr. Sir,
I will draft you a line, giving you a few facts in refference to this neighborhood, Most of the white people there are either unable, or unwilling to support a school, & as for the colored population. They are in distressing circumstances, & their situation remains daily to your work. Last week a freedman was shot and killed near this place, & another burnt near Louisville. From the best information, they both deserved their fate. Please let me know if any change is made by which I can obtain a situation as teacher for next year & you will much oblige.

Yours Respectfully
Rhodes G. Pope
