Stoughton July 10th

Dear Doris

Well after a week of terrible hot weather, ending up with thunder showers through the whole northern section, its at last turned into a north easter The Sunday papers are full of the damaged by lightning, the storm has done, it was terrible and lasted so long I was obliged to go down cellar and stay, Friday afternoon the heat was so intense. Lena was streached out in the bay window with as little clothes on as possible I could not work I would fall asleep. The thunder began about three o'clock the next morning and lasted throu Saturday and part of Sat night and was still rumbling Sunday morning with terrible cloud bursts, through the whole northern sections, Pa came home Friday night looking grey in the face, I think he was very nearly done up. This came across to us, from the west. My Golden glow is flat, but guess after the storm, it may come up. Lena is taking a course in Boston she hasnt registered yet (out to Cambridge). She goes in every day and gets home a little after 1 o'clock. We are all looking forward to your coming home, and were saying this morning well its just a month from today when you get home. Pa got a markdown sale of summer flannel underwear that was a good bargain, just injured by smoke, they washed right out, Lena brought them home to him. Thursday they were very fine goods and he was much pleased with them. they came from Filenes store, & he also brought home a basket of plumbs that will be hard work to get rid of before they spoil. I carried some over across the way to Mrs Soulsbury and Pa some
