Gloughton October 9th, 1921

Dear Doris-
   We have had no frosts as yet, although last night it came pretty near to being one, after the terrible wind of yesterday it grew so cold that I was fearful, so covered up my plants before retiring last night about four o'clock yesterday afternoon. Who should walk in on me, but Dr. Shores as "big as life and twice as natural." She had hardly been here half an hour before it began to pour guns. She waited for it to slack once or twice and started down st, but she no more than got home, before it poured again. Pa came home then to supper, he had been touring the town with his surrity com the two Dieks. And when he came home from shutting up for the night-I had my kerosene lamp a going. The storm had the wires down but there were fixed in about an hour's time, but I had been to all that trouble of filling and cleaning that lamp so was
