Dear Mrs. Holmes,

I am wondering how you and Mrs. Barry are this weather. Reports here are that you have had very cold temperatures in the north, but I don't believe all I hear, and there are in Boston papers here, this time of year, anyway. 

Day before yesterday I was out walking and it was so warm I had to take my coat off. Yesterday it came off cold and we had a fire in the fireplace down stairs. And today is still cold. A furnace fire would feel good but they have not started it yet. I stayed down by the fireplace a while and then went out and sat in the sun. I have a large room with large private bath, but no sun, so I have asked for another room. I may not stay more than two weeks longer anyway, but I don't know.

I sent Lula, you remember she is my sister-in-law, a postal to Wilmington, Vermont, and got a nice long letter in reply from St. Cloud, Florida. I should like to do down there to be near her, but haven't decided yet to do so, although she has looked up apartments and busses for me. She came down as companion and helper to a woman driving down with her grandson from Vermont. The grandson is in college in Gainesville, Florida. The mother didn't come until later.
