Colonel
I have the honor to return herewith the application of R. F Watts. Ordinary for aid for the Baptist Society of Lumpkin of date 21st January, with your endorsement of 30th January, with the recommendation that aid be rendered in very moderate amount — $50.- to $100.- as an encouragement to Mr. George Ball the paster, who I learn is a worthy man.

Last year Lumpkin was without a good school. The colored people are eagre to have one. The aid should be furnished on the understanding that the school shall not be a denominational school, because the Methodists and Baptists are not at present united.

Very respectfully
Your obt. Servt.
John A. Rockwell.
