Agreement with Freedmen

This agreement made and entered into between Claiborne Bowman, Rebeca Hays of Yazoo County, State of Mississippi. Of the first part, and the persons hereinafter named & undersigned, Freedmen. Of the same place, parties hereto of the second part, [[with-forth?]], that for the purpose of cultivating the plantation known as the "Claiborne Bowman's Place" in the county & state aforesaid, during the remaining portion of the year 1865, the said parties doth hereby agree to labor faithfully on said plantation, in consideration that the parties to the first part is to furnish wholesome food, clothing, quarters & fuel, medical attendance & medicines when sick, & not to exact labor on Sundays, 4th of July & Christmas holidays, & to allow one half of each & every Saturday; & the parties to the second part are to labor Ten hours per day during the summer months & nine during the winter months, & the families [[strikethrough]] are [[/strikethrough]] of [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] parties to the second part are to be provided for & protected.
