State of Mississippi Lowndes Cty Memorandum of a agreement between R S Witherspoon R,S, Witherspoon & the laborers contained in the annexed list for their services [[services]] for the remainder of the year 1865 The said Witherspoon on his part bargains & agrees in consideration of the services of said laborers from the present date 21st of June to the 31st day of December 1865 to pay to them the said laborers one fift part of the corn, Fodder [[strike through]] Peas - Potatoes[[strike through]] cotton &[[strikethrough]] wheat [[strikethrough]] now growing on the farm of said Witherspoon to be equitably divided among said laborers according to classification and also furnish them with houses - Fuel-food-clothing & Medical attendance - and the said laborers on their part bargains & agrees to use proper diligence industry & faithfulness in the cultivation of their growing crops on the farm of said Witherspoon and the gathering and preservation - Thereof - To do & perform all labor necessary and for the use and benefit of said farm- To take proper care of all Tools intrusted to them, also to take proper care of all stock of said farm, and also to perform any duty devolving on them as true and faithful laborers, as witness our hands and seals this 21st day of June 1865 Jack his + mark Oliver his + mak Jane her + mak John his + mark William his + mark Sophy her + mark Maria her + mark + Julia her + mark [[strike through]] Old Jack his mark [[strike through]] Mose his + mark Haney her + mark Bob his + mark Nathan his + mark Cathrine her + mark [[strikethrough]] Ben his + mark [[strikethrough]] Roxane her+ mark Millie her + mark [right hand side] R.
