Articles of Agreement between J.D. Nixon and Freedmen in his employ entered into June 1st, 1865

The within named Freedmen formerly belonging to J.D. Nixon,hereby pledge themselves to labor faithfully for for said J.D. Nixon on his plantation in Jasper Co. Miss or elsewhere, until the 25th December 1865 for the following wages, which J.D. Nixon hereby pledges himself to pay, for good and faithful work Viz.
All the molasses produced this year except what is consumed by white family.  Half the potatoes produced this year.  The usual amount of provisions, Clothing, Medicines, & medical attention Fuel  houses to live in &c as heretofore  All of which is forfeited and by each and every Freedman who shall leave J.D. Nixon's employ before the 25th December 1865  In agreement where to we hereby sign our names
