Agreement with Freedmen
this agreement made 1st day of June 1865 - By J. Bitain Mashack Rodgers of the County of Covington & state of Mississippi of the 1st part to the person hereinafter named & undersigned Freedmen of the same place part  band hereto of the second part hereto of the second part of the second Part 
  Witnesseth that for the Purpose of Cultivating the Plantation Known as the Mashack Rodgers Place in the County & slate aforesaid 
During the year Commencing on the 1st day June 1865 & terminating on the first day of Jan 1866 the said Mashack Rodgers party of the 1st Part in Consideration of the promises & Conditions hereinafter mentioned in the part of the part of the second part agrees to furnish to said Laborers & those Rightfully Dependent upon them free of Charge Clothing & food of Good Quality & sufficient Quantity Good & supplement Quarters medical attendance when necessary & Kind to humane treatment to alot [[a lot]] from the hands of said plantation for Garden purposes an acre to Each family such alottment to include a Reasonable use of tools & animals for the Cultivation of the same to Exact only one half a days Labor on saturday, & none whatever on sundays
nelly & Creasy Hannah & Jessie Clarisy & Charles of the second part agrees on their part to Remain on the above named place till the 1st day of Jan. 1866 for their Board & Clothing &c. & obligates themselves to perform the amount of Labor Required in this agreement             & it is  further agreed that in Case the said Mashack Rodgers of the 1st part shall fail neglect or Refuse to fulfill any of the obligations assumed By him or shall furnish said part of the second part with insufficient food or Clothing or be Guilty of Cruelty to them shall Besides the Legal recourse left to the party or Parties aggrieved Render the Contract Liable to anulment By the Provost marshal of freedmen & it is aforesaid in the
