Desoto Clark County Miss
June 14 - 1865

Sir:  I am not well posted as to the laws rules and Regulations about the hireing of Negroes, but I have made a Contract with all on my place for the balance of this year as follows 
Peter (Shoemaker) is to have his board and Clothes and Work for one half his time and for himself the other half and I am to furnish him a Carriage when cal'd for to Carry off his Shoes to sell
  Bill, Henry and Ned is to work as usual and have good Clothes and board and one day in each week - to work for himself -
lucy and Ellen does the Same
I also promise to give them next year Land Houses and team to farm and the Same Share that is usually given to White men &c  This is my report to you which I wish you to record and oblige &c
