The following agreement entered into this day June 8th 1865 between Jno Butts & the laborers whose names are attached for the cultivation of the "Solitaire Plantation" for the year 1865. Witnesseth that said Jno Butts promises to pay at the end the year after the crop of Cotton is gathered. the following wages per month - First class men $10- First class woman $8 & all others in proportion as they approximate the above Classification.  Further the said Jno Butts agrees to furnish each laborer with good & sufficient rations per week - to provide comfortable quarters - to allow each family sufficient land for the cultivation of vegetables etc. & to encourage industry does promise to each No 1. hand an additional sum of $25 & others in proportion provided he or she saves by Christmas five bales of Cotton.  The laborers will be required & do promise to do good work ten hours per diem to work five & half days per week to lose all time of sickness or absense from work & to obey all orders so long as they remain on the plantation.  The laborers agree further to pay for all injury to buildings, fences, or Stock unless the person so destroying buildings & fences & injuring stock can be pointed out to the said Jno Butts who will deduct from the wages of him or she a sufficient amt to remunerate for losses sustained by them.  It is agreed further that wages shall commence on the 18th day of June 1865 & end on the 1st June 1866.
