This Indenture, made the 19th day of July 1865,
WITNESSETH:
That John Minters colored, aged (13) Thirteen) years the son of Clark and Nancy, Resident of Father, near Robinson Spring, Autaga Co Alabama Separated by Slavery & death of mother has voluntarily expressed a willingness to live with and be bound to Walter W. Wilkins of Steele Co Minnesota P.O. Medford for (6) six years.
Reason for Bonding: consent of present separation by Father and choice of Boy:
That said Walter W. Wilkins agrees and binds himself unto Leut J. M. Clarke, Act Assistant Commissioner of Freedmen's Bureau, for State of Mississippi, to furnish food, clothing, washing, lodging, school books, and medical attendance to, and in every way care for said child, John Minter, during the term of this indenture; That said child John Minters, is to be sent to a school, taught by a competent teacher, at least six months of each and every year. He farther binds hiimself to exact no more labor from said colored child, John Minters, than is due from white children who are bound out under the laws of the State of [[strikethrough]] Mississippi [[/strikethrough]] Minnesota, in similar circumstances.
The Assistant Commissioner of Freedmen's Bureau, for the State of Mississippi, serves the right to annul this Indenture at any time the parties concerned fail to perform their part of its stipulations.
In witness whereof, the parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals.
