Went to the State House this morning Mr Warner got me to blot for him while he signed After went to Addie's and spent a long while then home 
In afternoon felt strong symptoms of chills and fever Matthews came and told me of the narrow escape which he and the Kirby family had from being burnt, the house having been set [[strikethrough]] on [[/strikethrough]] fire to He wished me to go to a Concert with him which I refused Mrs [[Hatton?]] came and persuaded me to go to Mde Desque to do some sewing for her.

Wednesday, July 1. 

Went out to sew today. I thought when I begun literature that ended but I find it otherwise It is at a French lady's I like her much and it is quite private Her musing shows that genius is not confined to paintings &c. In the afternoon I returned home Matthews had called to take me to see Mrs Lancaster and returned in the evening to find out where I had been I suppose. I was much tried by him this evening.
