1868 Thursday, July 30. Philadelphia We talked almost all night so we kept breakfast waiting went out for my ticket directly after OV Catto called during my absence. I called on Mrs Douglass I drew years of comfort from seeing her once more. I did not see Phillips nor Grace Mapps my idols Carrie Leevult dined with us, in afternoon we enjoyed ourself L. Maria Sidney & I inquiring over the past Sarah Iredell Laura Cashin Carrie and Miss Ketchum [[Kaeerry?]] around me 1868 Friday, July 31 On the [[wing?]] Annemarie Rode until about 10 A.M. and took the boat for Portsmouth. The sail top the Chesapeake Bay was delightful and cheerful, the RipRaps could be seen plainly. we stoped for a while at Fortress Monroe. reached Portsmouth about four oclock p.m. and took the train for Weldon reached Weldon at 7 P.M. and took the train for Raleigh. travelled all night long in a close dirty car alone until near daybreak when some few passengers entered.
