Monday, September 14.

Left Columbia for Charleston at 5-o'c arrived at three O clock Went to [[?]]'s. Met Pa on returning home From dusk till nearly midnight the [[?contest]] lasted between Pa. C. & I. C. begun preparing for Columbia. Pa consented at last not to interfere and allow the marriage to come off on Thursday morning. He thought it was too soon &c. Now had time to prepare house &c. Scylla baked the cakes &c.

Tuesday, September 15.

[[strikethrough]] W. arrived this [/strikethrough]] Went out this morning. Pa expected to win Will over to his side and postpone the wedding. but W cant [[strikethrough]] not [[/strikethrough]] be persuaded. I was out [[strikethrough]] when [[/strikethrough]] shopping with [[?]] bought two dresses in for the marriage and to travel in the other for the reception. Met Mrs Knight and hinted to her about coming up Thursday morning. Theo Smith & Mr Ezekial came. Their innuendos about W nearly put me crazy What they meant at first I could not tell.
