after I get there.

Last Tuesday evening we had our Teachers' Club Banquet. Just as it was finished, one of our teachers received word that her mother, who is 92 yrs. old, was sick again. On my way home I met her out walking with Miss Wilson, a friend, because she needed "some one strong to lean upon." The next day she had planned to go visiting schools with Miss Garland and me, but we didn't think strange when she did not meet us, thinking she had gone home. When that after-noon we learned that she had been taken violently sick at about 3 o'clock in the morning, had been rushed to the hospital at 11 after a visit by a Boston specialist and operated upon at 1 o'clock to have her gall bladder removed, and was too ill to see anyone, or receive flowers, you can well imagine our surprise. She may be able to see us for a few minutes to-morrow. We may try it; I don't know. It seems the doctor said 24 hrs. might make all the difference and that when he operated he made the time even shorter. In the meantime the youngsters at school are let loose again like so many wild animals in a zoo.

I have marks to make out but haven't done them. Perhaps I will do some after I get back.

I went looking for hepaticas yesterday and a week ago. I found buds but no blossoms.

Best of wishes,
Lena
