Monday Night.

Dear Folks: I guess it was a good thing that I took that bus. The roads are in ruts ten or so inches deep in places and we had to go slowly. Even so some girls on the back seat were screaming most of the time. The first squeals they gave really alarmed the driver, but after that he seemed to realize that it was partly jolt and partly male attention that ailed them so proceeded to smile with the rest of the crowd when they squealed.

Yesterday morning I went out for a walk and I guess all of the birds had been waiting for me for I saw and heard many song sparrows, flocks of red-winged blackbirds, grackels, I think, blue birds - two of which had already decided upon a hole in an old apple tree, a red-headed woodpecker, a low-flying hawk and many blue jays. Besides these as I turned into a wooded road two birds, larger than the robins, (which were also out in abundance) with short tails and bronze-gold colored breasts, under wing and tails flew into a tree above my head.
