had something the matter with it all-right, as you prophesied. We stopped two or three times and finally made a long visit at Readville. I got in to South Station at 6-50 instead of 5:30. I went over to North Station to hit a train to Concord or Concord Junction if I could but that also was gone. There was one later which was due in South Acton at 10-41 but I didn't know whether or not the car met it or whether I could get into the house so late, consequently did not care to risk the trip.

Oren was with Daisy; he is looking about the same as ever.

What do you think of Bates's enclosed letter? I don't just know whether to write and give him the dickens or tell him I guess Mary is all right as far as I am concerned. She would be if she would try, but she doesn't if she thinks she can't do a thing.

Best wishes,
Lena.
