Did you find the sassafras snail butterfly, and did you recognize him as the same kind your father brought in the middle of June?  The paper I put in was his skin.  He attached himself at his tail and by his strands, a little above the centre body.  The day before he came out I noticed that the head and half way down the sides were black - the next morning, Thursday - twenty days after going in, I believe, it was all dark colored and about 11 that forenoon I saw him so he had apparently just left the cocoon.  It took him the rest of the day to dry off and find his wings.  When the cocoon was at its best it showed veins just like a leaf and if on a stem could hardly be distinguished. I
