just as you did yours. He had sent J.H. on several errands and after he had gone out back of the house sent him to the front for the shears he had been using. J.H. took a good look around, decided they were not there then started on a little trot back to his father singing in his happy way, "Maybe they are lost." His father found they were in the garage after all.

It has been hailing here and is raining now again. It seems a queer fourth.

Helen Hewitt had two patriotic bouquets to-day made of red poppies, white fox gloves and Canterbury bells and blue larkspur. They are pretty and she gave us one to bring home.

Rose went yesterday, B. had asked her to say nothing to J.H. about leaving so she proceeded to try to impress him with the fact of her departure. He is very fond of muffins and Rose has made them for him, so after she had gone he went out to the kitchen and asked his mother if she could make muffins and when she said yes, he asked if she could make all kinds. That seemed to be the extent of his regret so it was not so bad after all.

He is wearing the little suit I gave him to-day. I let the buttons down a bit and it is not any too large but I guess he can wear it this summer.

Nothing more for to-night except that Theodore has just started a fire in the fireplace.
