it scares me to read the papers there are so many accidents happening. one knows not when one is safe. fires are so comon drownings & auto accidents do be careful.

My glasses gave out, so yesterday she took them down to the new optometrist to have them fixed, he said it was on account of the bows being old & it was lucky the glass did not break as they fell apart & dropped on the floor. it took him only a few minutes to fix them & he did not charge anything for doing it. she is going to find him some customers. one she gave her cousins name & some others she knows to help him, he is a very nice young man & she took to him.

I went over to give "brownie" a plate full of bones & met Mr McKay cutting his hedge. he has let the empty tenements in his house. the attic to a young couple the man drinks but she is French he tells him he can stay if he stays sober, very doubtful I should think. he says he has had to pay out a lot for damages to the house, some one did I took it. the man from Montellou [[Montello]] he had a row with whom he ordered out owing him for two months rent. poor man he is discouraged & says there's no profit in letting houses taxes going up as they have. nothing goes right these times. since our rain things look flourishing in the garden. I repotted four plants. my hydranger [[hydrangea]] has just got done blossoming, my cactus fern & my other small fern. seeds have come up nicely all but those you sent me no air stirring. sun hot we are melting did the dresses fit? hope they are satisfactory

Transcription Notes:
Don't use + Ma might have meant the man was from Monatiquot, which was in the same county as Stoughton, where she lived. Didn't see any other town or city in Massachusetts with anything closer than this town. I think it is Montello, a neighborhood in Brockton, a nearby town often mentioned in these letters. There is a Montello rail station in Brockton.
