This family-run restaurant - a theatre-area mainstay for more than a quarter of a century - remains as modestly priced and unassumingly run as when it first debuted. Franco, the owner/chef, is still in charge, and he's personally trained his trio of sons in hos homey recipes and personal touch.

Jean Stapleton, Donna Mills and cast members of Les Miz and Jekyll & Hyde are among the La Strada fans who love the food and handy locale.

The lunch and dinner menus contain such staples as clam cocktail and consommé alla Romana to start; with entrees and pastas such as baked ziti à la La Strada, shrimp marinara, lobster tails fra diavolo, veal parmigiana, sausage pizzaiola with peppers and broiled pork chops.

New Year's Eve brings à la carte dinner and at the same menu prices! (According to scion Joseph, some guests depart by midnight to catch the nearby Times Square ball-dropping event.)

Adrienne is a stately pleasure dome well worth visiting. Guests at the Peninsula (where Adrienne nestles) join elite New Yorkers, theatregoers and stars like Sean Connery and Goldie Hawn in luxuriating within its fine Beaux Arts interiors.
Chef John Ree's American cuisine is superb. Innovative manager Zack Zahran and his keen assistant, Steve Bellon, have instituted remarkable alternatives to their famed à la carte dinner, embracing a special pre-theatre dinner at $35 and an interesting tasting menu, $50. Sunday brunch ($40) is also a tradition at the Peninsula.
We urge you to try pan-roasted Muscovy duck breast, veal tenderloin, and sweetwater prawns served with stone-ground white truffle grits, all augmented by South African wines. Desserts are fittingly extravagant and Peninsula-perfect.

TRATTORIA DOPO TEATRO This handsome theatre-area winner has been extensively redone by its owner and architect, the gifted Emilio Barletta, and it's smashing. Delectable (and affordable) Northern Italian cuisine is presented against such appealing design elements as a downstairs cigar lounge - a lulu - and a "secret garden." CHEZ JOSEPHINE Jean-Claude Baker, the liveliest bon vivant since Maurice Chevalier, offers excellent cuisine, fair prices and a Broadway-electrifying ambience [[ambiance]].
