Dear Folks

A beautiful day summer like & warm with doors & windows all open. everything quiet. the Ballentines away to spend their vacation to the mountains. Gertrude came in yesterday to bid us good bye & to show us her new coat that Addie made for her & she had it on to wear on her vacation. she was taking her Mother & Addie to be gone a fortnight. it seems quiet with their house shut up. the Rings are no neighbors no more than the Toomeys. they mind their own business & thats something. Mary told Mrs Barry it seemed good to see you when you were home. she does not have many companions these times. Addie says. but her boy friend may be sufficient. he never will marry her they say. but she wants to marry, he has a filling station down to West Stoughton & his folks are not like her family & neither is he. Addie told her so, thats what made the trouble between the two. they are not on friendly terms since. she says the neighbors talk. because he is there so much & stays all night courting. who would thought any Toomey would have been that way. I guess her family cant stop it. Dr Toomey was silly

Hope you have a chance to go on your painting expedition & as thats a good way to relax. Has your friend Hugo got back to the [[?]] yet? I have missed you since you went back. how I hate these partings. I dont hear from Lena. Mrs Barry called on the people that live in the Blake house & invited them to attend the turkey supper at the Episcopal Church tomorrow afternoon & she would introduce them to the minister & his family. they said they would go. she was taken over the house & said they had lovely furniture & it looked fine there.
