Dear Doris

We had our storm of Friday night with pouring rain all night & much wind, not so bad though as in some places. most of it went out to sea, hope you escaped it also in the paper it said it was very bad to the shipping also along the coast but so far New England escapes I found our roof had leaked pretty badly the table in the front chamber where my pin cushion rested stood in a puddle of water so the needles in it had to dry off. I have not seen Maude but will ask her about the chair when I do. today is a lovely day out on the porch where I am writing the letter. the little birds are coming after the berries in flocks over the porch all kinds, there are lots of robins. lots of leaves strew the ground also branches since the gale. its almost time to take up plants for the winter. I dont like to think of the coming long & dismal cold winter. as I had hoped never to see another, last one was terrible, thought it never would end. I had to pay out so much for oil. our heater will give us much more satisfaction & will
