& told her he tried to go with Gertrude but she would'nt have any thing to do with him. he is not a marrying man. has other girls. Mary resented what she tried to impress upon her. so told her she could stay away which she did & the courting still goes on till three o'clock in the morning. four nights in the week.

I was going up to bed last evening after nine & looked out the window to see the sky as I always do & saw something red & called Mrs Barrys attention to it. we did not make out what it was & the radio news mentioned it. this morning. the papers will have it later on & perhaps it will tell more about it. we are glad I happened to see it. some say to see red spots in the sky its the sign of war. a thing we dread anyhow. never mind we have enough these times to worry about but what cant be cured, must be endured. those who have passed on are the lucky ones after all. Maude is taking care of the baby for the parents to celebrate their second years anniversary down to the shore, where they spent their honeymoon. hope she enjoys it. they do & get all they can out of it selfish pigs. she is good she is anxious to know when you folks are coming up home I dont think she knows what she is going to do about living there this winter but she cant afford to heat that big house should not think but they dont want her to live with them
