The manuals found among this area of broken rock were a couple of species of Sitomys, a Neotoma, Civet Cats, a Mephitis & a Spilogale & 2 [[strikethrough]] large [[/strikethrough]] Lepus. Along the eastern border of this lava bed is an almost equally extensive bed of fine volcanic sand which extends down the slope from the vicinity of the volcano & out upon the flat [[strikethrough]] where [[/strikethrough]] covering, to a depth of from a few inches to several ft., the old lake bed deposit of vegetable mould.

In this sand at the border of the plain are great numbers of a small Dipodomys, with a few Sitomys sonorensis, Spermophilus mex. & S. macrurus.
