grotesque figures covered in high relief on the stone which is carefully dressed & fitted with smooth faces and made of large blocks of lava. The stones of the top course are 24 x 28 & considerably longer than wide or thick. Stones 3 to 4 ft. long are common. A number of photographs taken will show the character of the figures. In Humboldt's travels he gives a large plate suppose to represent one face of this ruin, but it is wholly fanciful & does not convey the slightest idea of its real character.
