Articles of agreement between Caroline Stewart of Pontotoc County, State of Mississippi and the undersigned laborers of the same County and State this day of August 1865.

I. The said Caroline Stewart is to furnish the laborers for the balance of this year, food, clothing, quarters and medical attention as heretofore.

II. She is to give to the laborers in compensation for their labor until the 1st of January 1866, one tenth of the crop growing on the plantation on which the said Mrs Caroline Stewart resides.

III. The laborers are to obey the said Caroline Stewart or her agent [[strike]] as heretofore [[/strike]] and to do promptly and faithfully as heretofore any and all work required by them for the balance of this year.

IV. Each laborer shall be charged fifty cents for every days labor lost from sickness and seventy five cents for each day lost from any other cause.

V. The division of the products is to be made when they are gathered and the laborers are to divide their part among themselves according to their ability to work but in case of sale before the 1st of January 1866 enough shall be left in the hands of said Caroline Stewart to secure her against loss of time by the laborers.

VI. The laborers are to be held strictly accountable for all property placed in their charge: they are not to leave the place without a permit nor to ride or use without permission the stock on the plantation at night or any other time without a forfeiture of twenty dollars for each offense.

VII. If any of the laborers refuse or fail to labor fairly and faithfully, or leave the place without permission, he or she shall be liable to dismission and forfeit his or her share of the crop to the employer.

VIII. The laborers will be required to keep good order and conduct themselves with prudence on the premises.
