Hazlewood Plantation August 21st 1865

I the undersigned Guardian of the heirs of C.S. Tarpley do this day make a contract with said colored men (freedmen) retaining them to the 1st Jany 1866 on condition of providing them with food, clothes, fuel, and medical attention. They said colored men promising faithfully performing their duty as labour on the above said Plantation.

We promise faithfully to perform this duty of laborers under the above named conditions of Mrs C.S. Tarpley and that our behavior shall be honest & good.
