Memorandum of an agreement between E.A. Ervin & the laborers contained in the anexed [[annexed]] list for their services the remainder of the year 1866
The said Ervin on his part bargains & agrees in consideration of the services of such laborers from the present date 22nd June to the 31st December 1866 to pay to them the said laborers one fifth part of the Corn & fodder & Cotton now growing on the farm of said Ervin to be equitably divided among said laborers according to classifications & also to furnish them with houses fuel food clothing & medical attendance & the said laborers on their parts have given & agrees to use proper diligence industry & faithfulness in the cultivation of the growing crops on the farm of the said Ervin & the gathering & preservation thereof. To do & perform all labor necessary for the use & benefit of said farm. To take proper care of all tools entrusted to them. Also to take proper care of all stock of the said farm & also to perform any duty devolving on them as true & faithful laborers As witness our hands & seals this 18th August 1865
