Agreement with Freedmen
This agreement made this the 15th day of Sept 1865 - by and between J.L Hopkins of the first part Clemmnel his wife & three children Freedment of the second part and of Mississippi of the first and the persons hereinafter of the named under signed Freedmen of the same place, party, hereto of the second part Witnesseth that for the purpose of cultivating the plantation known as the J.L. Hopkins plantation in the county of Oktibeha State of Mississippi aforesaid during the year commencing on the 25th of Sept A.D. 1865 and terminating [[strikethrough]] of [[strikethrough ends]] on the 1st of January 1866. The said J.L. Hopkins, party of the first part in consideration of promises and conditions hereinafter mentioned on the first part of the second part agreed to furnish to the said laborers and their rightful dependents upon them free of charges clothing and food of good  quality and of significant quantity good and sufficient quarters Medical attendance when necessary. kind and humane treatment. To escort only one half a days labor on Saturdays and none whatever on Sunday
