Agreement with Freedman

This agreement made this 17th day of August A.D. 1865 by and between Joseph Agnew of the county of Tippah and State of Mississippi administrator of the estate of Dr. Washington Agnew died of the first part and the person hereinafter named and undersigned Freedman of the same place party of the second  part viz Isham.     

Witnesseth that for the purpose of cultivating the plantation belonging to the estate of Dr Washington Agnew died in the county and state aforesaid during this year commencing on the first day of January AD 1865 and terminating on the first day of January 1866 the said Joseph Agnew.  Administration of the said Estate party of the first part in consideration of the promises and conditions herein after mentioned on the part of the party of the second part agree to furnish to the said laborers and those rightfully dependent on him free of charge clothing and food of good quality and sufficient quantity, good an sufficient quarters, medical attendance when necessary and kind and humane treatment.  Also one tenth part of the corn made on the farm.  The above obligation to furnish good and sufficient clothing is by agreement made to depend upon the woman in the premises spinning a sufficient amount of thread for that purpose. She having more than half her time allowed her for effecting this object.

And it is further agreed that in case the said Joseph Agnew administrator of the said Estate shall fail neglect or refuse to fulfill any of the obligations assumed by himself or shall furnish
