Dear Doris

Yours received. it bids fair to be another pleasant day. I have just been down to get a yeast cake, & started my bread. have also got a dish of scalloped fish, & a tapioca pudding in the oven baking. yesterday we got herrins [[herring]] of Jack, & had some for our supper last night. they were very good. my fire has gone out in the heater so I am only running the kitchen stove that with the sun seems to be enough. the thermometer outside is 50˚ these sunny days I manage to be outside a good deal among my garden bulbs that are coming fast. daffodills & blossoming well they have three & four buds a piece narcissi are also budding. I have just lugged over dressing from the farm cellar & put on to the oriental poppies & flox [[phlox]] & red bud I mean to have that blossom as I have no idea what it looks like. Georgia sent in her letter a spring beauty I had never seen one before. she wrote about their kidnapping children out there where she lives. isn't it dreadful?
