PS Your father has just come home + is scratching his letter down he says he can write it in five minutes I doubt it

              Stoughton March 8th 1929
Dear Doris
I have crawled into the warmest
corner in the house to write this letter It
is a cold wave that swooped down upon
us yesterday afternoon this morning it
registered 4* above the wind blew all
night long. After supper I braved the cold
and about dusk went down town after some
flour to make some brown bread and a yeast
cake in the store where Nickols block was I
met "Booby" he came over to speak and told about going to the Mass General + their not giving him any encouragement, he may have to
lose the leg, his ankle is now very painful
unless he lays in bed, but they took away
his bloat and he looked much better to me,
he is going to try another hospital, the
Salem one but he does not have much
hope. I told him that I felt very sorry for
him but of course that does not help him
much. Fred Drake was with him as they
are great cronies isn't it funny good
hearted but queer
