Articles of Agreement made and entered into this 24th January 1866, at Memphis Tenn., by and between W.K. Harley of first part, and the undersigned freedmen of second part, Witnesseth:- W.K. Harley agrees to furnish sixty acres of cleared land, to be cultivated by said freedmen during the year 1866, in cotton and corn, the said W.K. Harley also agrees to furnish all teams, feed for teams, farming implements &c, in order to raise said crop, and quarters and food for said freedmen and their help, during the continuation of this contract. The freedmen on their part agree to cultivate said land as above mentioned, be responsible for all articles placed in their possession by said W.K. Harley (reasonable wear and tear excepted) and to do such other work as is necessary to be done on a farm, all under the directions of said W.K. Harley. In consideration of the services of said freedmen, they are to receive one half of the entire crop raised by them on said 60 acres of land. Witness our signatures at place and date above mentioned.
