Memorandum of an agreement made this the 2d day of January 1866, between Alfred Cummings of the first part, and Jerry Brister party of the second part all of Lawrence County, State of Mississippi.

Witnesseth, That the said Alfred Cummings for the considerations herein after mentioned agrees to pay to the party of the second part one hundred & fifty six dollars ($156,) payments to be made as follows, five dollars at the end of each month and the ballance on the 1st day of January 1867, and do further agree to furnish the said party of the second part with good wholesome food and comfortable lodgings,


and the said party of the second part for the considerations herein before mentioned agrees to labor faithfully for the party of the first part for the year 1866. Commencing on the 8th day of this month, payments to be made from the first. But the pay for the lack eight days to be in lieu of all clothing, and further agree to furnish my own medical attendance, and to have no claim on the party of the first part except for the amount before mentioned, and if I lose any time without permission from my employer, I agree to forfeit double my wages for the first week so lost, and four times this amount for all time lost over a week,
