This Agreement made this 2nd day Jany 1866, in duplicate, between Young G. Houston of the first part and Betsy West freedwoman and daughter of September West a freedman

of the second part, all of the County of Holmes and State of Mississippi. Witnesseth, that the part of the second part is to work for the party of the first part for the space of 12 months, beginning on the 1st day of January 1866, and ending of the 31 day of December 1866, as a common laborer and she is to obey all orders given her by said Houston or the manager on his the said Houstons farm during said year
and the party of the first part is to pay the said party of the second part one fourth part of the crop of cotton & corn to be grown by one hand on said farm during the year 1866, and furnish the party of the second part with a sufficiency of good and wholesome food during said year and said freedwoman is to clothe herself & pay her own doctors bills but the said Houston is to attend on her in light sickness free of charge said freedwoman is to pay her own taxes.
