This Agreement made this 4th day of January 1866, in duplicate, between J.P. Walton of the first part and Henderson Grimes, and Sophia his wife

of the second part, all of the County of Holmes and the State of Mississippi, Witnesseth that the parties of the second part are to work for the party of the first part for the space of 12 months, beginning on the 4th day of January 1866, and ending on the 1st day of January 1867, and are to do the necessary work to carry on a farm, and the sabbath work and the work about the houses, as and when required by the party of the first part. In payment for the above mentioned services, the party of the first part is to pay the parties of the second part the sum of two hundred and ninety dollars (290$), and the party of the second part is also to receive from the party of the first part a sufficient quantity of good wholesome food free of charge. It is further agreed between the parties that for the labor of the two children of the parties of the second part named Tena and John the party of the first part is to furnish to said children their food and good substantial clothing; It is also agreed that the party of the first part is to furnish the parties of the second part with food for their child Emma, and that the parties of the second part are to pay the party of the first part a reasonable compensation therefor. The parties of the second part agree with the party of the first part that they will not take holyday at any time without the consent of the party of the first part, and in case of loss of time by either of the parties of the second part from sickness or other cause the parties of the second part are to deduct for said lost time at the rate of 15 dollars per month.
