Contract

Agreement with Freedmen

This contract made & entered into this twelfth day of Jany 1866 between E R Winfield a planter of the county of Holmes & State of Mississippi and the undersigned freedmen-.

Witnesseth that the said E R Warfield for this day employed the said undersigned freedmen to work for the space of twelve months ending on first day of Jany 1867, on the said Warfield plantation in the aforesaid County & State, for the following terms & conditions. to wit -
The said E R  Winfield is to furnish land, stock, farming implements & wagons, necessary to cultivate a crop, free of charge: - is to furnish provisions, sufficient for themselves & children, free of charge, - also 2 suits summer clothing & one suit winter clothing, two pr shoes, & one hat - free of charge - also, medicines when sick, free of charge to themselves & children - and in consideration herefor the said undersigned freedmen agree & do hereby bind themselves to work as common laborers of the plantation of said Warfield

Employer's name: E R WARFIELD - Edward Ross Warfield, Holmes Co., MS - not WINFIELD. Censuses online as confirmation. The Contracts right around this one are from Holmes Co., plus you can see it ends in an "-olmes". Couldn't figure out first letter until I looked at list of Counties.
