Theses articles of agreement and contract made and concluded this 13th day of January 1866, by and between A. B. Clark of the first part, and the below named [[strikethrough]] a freed [[/strikethrough]] men of the second part, Witnesseth: That for and in consideration of the payments hereinafter stated to be made, the said [[blank]] [[strikethrough]]freedman [[/strikethrough]] freedmen agrees and binds [[strikethrough]] himself [[/strikethrough]] themselves to work as [[strikethrough]] a [[/strikethrough]] plantation laborers for said A. B. Clark from the 1st day of January 1866, to the 1st of January, 1887, on the plantation of said A. B. Clark in Yazoo County, Mississippi. He agrees and binds himself to render to said A. B. C. during said year, (1866,) respectful, obedient and faithful labor, and to labor from daylight until dark, of each day, under such plantation regulations as the said A. B. C. or his Agent, shall make.

In consideration of the faithful performance of this contract by the said Freedmen of the 2 part [[strikethrough]] freedman, the said [[/strikethrough]] A. B. C hereby obligates and binds himself to pay said [[strikethrough]] the said [[/strikethrough]] Freedmen as follows Sindo 14.00 Kinney 12.00 Ben. 10.00 Mary 8.00 and Frank 4.00 per month [[strikethrough]] the sum of $[[blank]], per year, [[/strikethrough]] payable at the end of the year, and to furnish him with 3 1/2 lb. of meat and one peck of meal per week and with good and comfortable quarters and fuel, and two suits of cloths or cloth for ten suits each and one pair of shoes except Sindo who furnishes his own clothes. he to be furnished money quarterly

The said A. B. C further agrees to keep constantly on hand meat, meal, and salt which he hereby binds himself to furnish said Freedmen in sufficient quantity over and above his ration as stated, at current market price.

The said A.B. C. further agrees to require no labor of the said Freedmen from twelve M. Saturdays until the Mondays followin, except attention to stock, and except further, that when work and labor may be deemed indispensable by the said A. B. C. to the successful cultivation and gathering of the crop, and when said Freedmen shall be so required to labor on the afternoons of Saturdays as above stated, the said A.B. C. agrees either to pay said Freedmen for such extra labor, or to allow said Freedmen an equal amount of time for his own use, out of laboring days when the situation and condition of crop and plantation will permit. 

It is further agreed that in case the said Freedmen, shall absent [[strikethrough]] himself [[/strikethrough]] themselves without permission, or shall neglect or refuse to labor, as above stipulated, the said A.B. C. or his Agent, reserves the right to discharge said Freedmen, from his employ, and the said Freedmen shall forfeit all wages due [[strikethrough]] him [[/strikethrough]] them, by virtue hereof, at time of [[strikethrough]] his [[/strikethrough]] their discharge.
