I MP Cheatham have this day hired Newton Henderson and his wife Ann to work on my farm as farm hands doing all the work required on Said farm as farm hands respectfully obeying all orders given by me or any one acting in my place and to attend to all stock put in their charge and treat it humanely they agree to cultivate five acres in corn and ten in cotton each and assist in working all patches necessary for the use of Said farm and to do all repairs necessary to keep said farm in good order they are to furnish their own clothing pay their doctors bills and taxes for which I am to give him one half and his wife one third of the cotton made to the hand on said farm and furnish good and holsom rations as follows 3 1/2 lbs of bacon or salt pork or 8 1/2 lbs of fresh beef and one peck of corn meal each per week - the Term of Service to commence on the first day of January AD 1866 and end on the first day of January AD 1867 [[illegible]] witness our hands and Seals this third day of January AD 1866
