Articles of agreement between Betsy Campbell freedwoman and W.S. Compton
Betsy Campbell agrees to hire herself to W.S. Compton as house servant - to wash & iron or nurse, as is desired, from this the 3d day of Jan to the 3d day of April 1866. She promises to faithfully obey all orders or directions of the said W.S. Compton or his wife. For which the said W.S. Compton is to pay the said Betsy Campbell at the rate of Eight ($8.00/mo) Dollars per month, one half be paid at the end of each month or during the month and the rest at the end of the time hired for.

If the said Betsy Campbell freedwoman refuses to obey the orders of the said W.S. Compton or his wife the said W.S. Compton reserves the right to remove the said woman from service and she shall thereby forfeit half of the wages due her. 

The said Compton will furnish the necessary medicines in case of sickness and good and sufficient food. The said Betsy Campbell freedwoman to clothe herself & pay her other expenses.
