Agreement with Freedmen.

Made the day and date annexed by and between Wm. B Shields of the county of Lowndes and State of Mississippi. Party of the first part, and the following Freedmen and Freedwomen, whose names are undersigned.

Witnesseth

That for the purpose of cultivating the plantation 13 miles North East of Columbus known as the Shields' place for the ensueing year, beginning with the first day of January 1866 and ending with December 31st, 1866 the Party of the first part agrees to give the Parties of the second part 1/3 of the proceeds of the plantation exclusive of the expences (Expences estimated at 1500 bushels of corn and $300) during said time, and in addition to furnish them with medical attention and good and sufficient food and quarters. And it is agreed on the part of the Parties of the second part, the Laborers, that they will well and faithfully perform any and all labor, that is required of them by the said employer or his agent for said specified time.
