where ever else he may go. To protect all such freedmen hereby contracting against any injustices by those who fail to comply with this contract, so far as the faithful cultivation of the land is concerned, it is hereby provided that, when any freedman shall fail to be at his work by the time provided or to work diligently as required, he shall upon the complaint of any other freedman be tried upon such charge by a jury of not less than six or more than twelve freedmen, who shall be elected by all the freedmen hereto signing to serve for one month, elections being had thereafter monthly, and if he shall be found guilty of palpable violation of his duties as prescribed herein— then he shall, if such finding be approved by said Brown or his agent, be dishonorably dismissed from employment and forfeit all share to which he might otherwise have been entitled in the crops to be raised, & be responsible as before provided for all advances made him— Such other freedmen may be then employed to supply the place or places of those thus dismissed, on such terms as the remaining freedmen may agree upon, but it is expressly understood that they are to supply such others.
